I am starting my possess business and choosing a name has been very difficult. I want to set myself up for success and I am looking for something that has the available domain name, but I also want to make sure I can register for it on a state and federal level. I have heard stories in the past of people who receive up and running and once they've already started groeing with a certain name, they find out someone else has rights to it to. How do I avoid this?

Open Question: Making a successful website?
Me and my pal were thinking about making a website to receive a mild profit from he already owns a website that gets close 1000+ hits a day and hes looking into buying another site so he can do something different. It really doesnt matter but idea i came up with was making a review website like reviewing new games and unboxing things etc but he doesnt seem it will be any profit to him, so what do you guys think would be a good type of website to build to earn a mild profit? I'm a drunk.. well, probably an alcoholic.. I'm hoping that writing about every the horrible choices I've made, and my crazy past experiences will help me find some sort of direction and stability in my gift day life.. and perhaps one day entertain the masses... Since I'll be writing mostly about the past, I'm thinking of writing each post like a chapter in a book instead of a day-to-day blog? anyway, which blog hosting site would you recommend, and why? and i know I need to purchase my possess domain name, but finding the perfect domain name seems to be difficult because so many are taken.. any tips on coming up with a name that is unique, simple, catchy, and most importantly available? and also, who would you recommend buying the domain through? everyone hopes their blog attracts tons of readers, so i will be optimistic that one day people will find my stories entertaining and informative.. so, what steps do i need to take when setting up the blog, like adsense, or having others able to subscribe to my blog (how?), or stat-tracker, or anything else? to make sure i do it right... and also to make sure my content isn't stolen/plagiarized? and would it be better to be silly or serious? I have a sense of humor, and I think readers prefer enlightened reading, but at the same time I don't want to completely make a joke out of a pretty serious issue... how do i find glad medium, without sounding like i'm indifferent and can't make up my mind.. Thanks for the genuine response. reason for wanting to actually purchase the domain name is to look more professional.. i always think blogs that are abc.blogger.com or abc.wordpress.com came off as cheap and lousy.. i think people would take me more serious if they know i had something invested.. $15-20. not a real biggy not too worried about getting bored/running out of material (at least not too soon). i spent a couple months in jail about 2 years ago (result of one of my genius ideas), and with every that free time i wrote pages and pages on how i felt in the situation; other inmates' stories, how the system works, etc.. so i have some back-up material. and still trying to figure out what direction to take it (i guess i'd have time, and more than anything look how it comes together). because a lot of my stories are so ridiculous they are hilarious on their possess.. and yet so irresponsible, i think most anyone with even a little common sense would look that. and not follow my footsteps

Open Question: Domain name (DNS) server?
my wireless keeps getting disconnected but i always have 4 bars. im currently using acer windows 7 aspire 5534. i have 2 boxes hooked up to the cable, my cable tv works but my phone and internet disconnect at the same time. i have an arris wireless box and my internet service converter from suddenlink. when i check the diagnosis for the diconnection it tells me that the DNS server isnt responding. but i still have every 5 bars. whats going on?

Open Question: Which website idea is better?
Hello. I would like to make six figures a year. I have two website ideas. 1. A website where users can sign up and list, buy, sell, and auction their websites and domain names. Website flipping is a huge business, and many people want an already made and established website. People with established websites sometimes like to sell their site and make cash. It is a marketplace for websites. I would make money by charging a tiny commission to the seller and by having ads on the website. Pros- chilly idea, they have already made scripts for $50 Cons- competing with flippa and site point and websitebroker which are already established. 2. Consultants is a huge business, however, people with online businesses and websites also need help with how they should run their company. This would be a website based around a unique points system. The person who needs help with their website would buy 10 tokens for a tiny fee per token in order to post a question about their site. They could then post a snapshot along with the URL and questions they have about marketing, revenue, etc. Other users could then answer the questions and give feedback. Once the post closes, the ten points are distributed as follows. If there are more than 5 people who answered, only the top 5 chosen by the question poster gets 1 point each. If there are more than two but less than five, top two receive two points. If there is only one poster and he has a good answer, he gets five points. The remaining five or six points are mine. If no one posts on your question within a month, you receive your refund or can use points again later. You can also trade in points for cash and for prizes with people with many points. At first when the site is in beta, if there is a automatic posting thing used by scammers, users can flag them and I would manually delete the accounts. After beta, we would install a spam free security system that detects and prevents spam. I would make money by selling points and ads on the site. Pros- great new idea, money from different sources Cons- startup costs are huge since I would have to hire a web design firm. 3. Sell wholesale products from doba on ebay. People have been telling me in order to receive wealthy, you have to start a business. So those are my business ideas. However, this year, I am being promoted to partner at my management consulting firm and will be making seven figures each year as partner. I would then go onto a fortune 500 media company like viacom, time Warner, or news corp, apply for a senior management/executive position and make multi millions each year. Is it worth even starting a business. Maybe with my millions, I could afford to start number 2 if you think it is a good idea? However, I don't need a business to make me wealthy. I've already become wealthy living off of my six figure salary from my firm and soon to be million dollar salary.

Open Question: Help! I have copyrighting issues?
I am a songwriter, and I have used a line from Robert Frost's poem "Road less Taken" where he says "and I took the one less traveled by". My tune includes a line that reads "Walk the road less traveled by," and I have used it intentionally from his poem for creative purposes (it's apparent because it's a famous line from Frost's poem). If this were a research paper, I would have cited the source on paper. But this is a tune . It's an audio. And my intent is to commercially distribute the tune. I want to copyright the tune. But I am not sure what to do about that line. Robert Frost died in 1963. What should I do? I have no problem giving credit to Robert frost for that line (I adore Frost) , but when I copyright it, Do I mention the tune in my name and give credit to Frost for that one line? Or should I not bother if his poem is in Public domain? Or is there some publisher that I need to receive permission from??

Resolved Question: How much should a domain cost?
I used to create my possess websites way back in the day (I'm talkin' 2001, back when I was in 7th grade) I started off by using Geocities for free and then I moved on to real hosted domain name things. (I never took classes in the stuff, I just used common sense and simple HTML so forgive my lack of knowledge in computer/website lingo/technical terms.) Anyway, I remember paying a reasonable amount of money per year for storage space, domain name and even an email address with Canaca.com. I just returned to their website to possibly sign up again and they now charge $40-something a month! I feel like the carpet has been pulled below me! Am I crazy or is this a little much? Are there any good hosts who charge per year? I don't like this per-month business...

Resolved Question: Website Designer question?
I created a website at wix and after upgrading my account to premium package I linked my possess domain name to the site, but my website does not show on any search engineer, it only comes up if I type my domain on the address bar, otherwise none search engineer pick my site. Is there any test that can be run to check why my website is not shown on search engineers, in order for me to fix this problem? I have had websites before, not from wix, and I have never experienced this problem.

Open Question: Buying a website without custum layouts and can be designed through HTML/CSS/Javascript coding?
Hi, I'm looking for a site that sells website domain names. The only problem I seem to be having is every buyable website has about custom layouts built into it.(Or maybe its something else thats causing the custom layouts I am not sure.) These layouts would be fine...except for the fact that I am educated in HTML/CSS/Javascript coding and would prefer to customize my website myself. Also, the buyable websites I've checked out seems to be majorly consisting of layouts and finding the view source editor in these buyable websites is close impossible. I'd much rather prefer a buyable website that has no custom layouts availible and can only be designed by HTML/CSS/Javascript editing. Does anyone know where to find a site that sells websites of this desctiption? Oh, I know the 'custom layouts' are WYSIWYGs, which only makes me hate them more.

Open Question: server install & config for first time problems?
hi im a first line IT techncian and I need help. im wanting to make my home network a domain using a server for resources and authentiation. i installed server.. did the auotmated adding server roles. changed my server static address to dynamic cos i noticied I could ping my laptop and server by ip and name when it was set to dynamic but couldnt when my LAN for the server was set to a static IP. when i type in my domain the laptop says cannot contact AD, may not exist...... blah blah, I aint mcsa-mcse so I ont know much about server config. any advice is really apprectaited!! yh my router acts as the DHCP so is tht maybe why when I set my server as stati my laptop cannot ping the server? and yes I gt a AD, DNS, DHCP.

Open Question: Why won't windows 7 ultimate connect to my active directory network?
I installed windows server 2003 enterprise to set a home network (I just had the CD lying around) and i set up a active directory server role on it. It uses its self for the DNS. I tried to connect my laptop to it (which has windows XP pro) and entered the domain name: "Homenetwork". Then I entered a username and password and it worked. However, when I entered the domain name a different username and password onto a different computer with window 7 ultimate it gave me this mistake: The following mistake occurred attempting to join the domain "homenetwork": An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain. For information about network troubleshooting , look windows help. I am new to this whole active directory thing and was just wondering why wont windows 7 let me connect to the server? If my setting are wrong then how arrive one computer was able to connect to the server? By the way windows automatically set up the DNS

Open Question: My website doesnt show up properly on Google?
My fathers business website has a different domain host to his website host. I pointed it to the right host and it works fine when you anter it via www..... but when you try and search for it in Google...the website appears...but the details of the domain host are shown rather than the details of the website. On google, it is listed like this: 123reg. Cheap domain names etc.... How can I fix this?

okay, I cannot receive internet on my grandma's desktop, and when I diagnose the problem it says "windows cannot find the host name yadda yadda using DNS" the domain server may be down so, I thought it was a problem with our internet provider, but when I plug the internet cord into my lap top, internet works just fine. So, here's what I am looking for in the name: -something nice of weird and creative -doesn't sound like something else (ie; a clothing store called hamburgers inc. or something dumb like that. -sounds cute, like something you would look on a campus for colleges.

Open Question: How to set up Google Adsense for Youtube?
In order to be partnered on youtube, you need your channel to be linked to an adsense account, but in order for my adsense account to be approved it is supposed to be my possess domain name. But obviously, my youtube channel isn't my possess domain name...it's youtube's domain. So how does one create an adsense account for their youtube?

Open Question: How can I assign a domain name to an off-line website?
I am considering building a website accessible through a wireless network that is not connected to the Internet. Naturally it would be hosted by a computer on the wireless network. Is there a way to assign a domain name to such a website? I guess I was unclear - I have no intention of making it publicly accessible - it is just for a private network.

Open Question: How likely will the person renew with 4 days left from deletion?
i won a domain from an expired auction domain that's been expired since 6/18/10, only 4 more days to go until it's mine.. how likely will the person renew in the end?? I feel like im gonna be pretty nervous until sunday since i adore this domain name and it's really great one that could worth a lot of money.

Open Question: iWeb publishing question?
Okay so when I go to publish a website to my server via FTP the link ends up like this. http://MYSITE.com/KlassenKorner/Home.html so http://MYSITE.com = my domain name. KlassenKorner = what I named my website in iWeb Home.html = the page name in iweb so I was wondering how I could make it so if someone types in http://www.MYSITE.com/hey it will go to a page because its too difficult to make someone type in http://www.MYSITE.com/KlassenKorner/hey.html to receive to the same page as mysite.com/hey
